Stop sexualising children

We have reached a point where people have to be told that sexualising children isn't cute and in reality is paedophilia. After W magazine released an article stating 'Why TV is sexier than ever' and included 13 year old Millie Bobby Brown as one of the reasons it seems it is time to educate everyone of what paedophilia actually is.

To those who aren't aware paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a sexual attraction to prepubescent children.

By sexualising a 13 year old W magazine is saying that its okay to be sexually attracted to a 13 year old. Which it isn't. Millie is a child and deserves to be treated as one despite her being in a successful TV show and being a more well known name doesn't take away the knowledge that she is a 13 year old girl simply trying to live her life.

When we add this along with many magazines questioning how her clothes are 'suggestive' we have a serious problem. By sexualising her outfits and behavior we are making her seem like she has the right to be viewed that way and adding to an already developed rape culture.

Finn Wolfhard has also been subjected to this gross reality when model Ali Michael posted a photo of him captioned "Not to be weird but hit me up in 4 years". A 27 year old is publicly announcing that she finds a 14 year old attractive and the internet had something to say about her comments.

We need to view children as children, people that are just trying to grow up and figure out who they are and what their place is.

Children can't be a sex icon, can't be sexy, or hot or anything else. Stop making their outfit choices seem suggestive and let them keep their childhood instead of forcing them to grow up too quickly.
